The 'trail-rated' Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 2012, which is set to hit Australian shores early next year, has "seriously capable" off-road ability, according to one reviewer.
Anthony Crawford of Car Advice test-drove the newest Jeep Wrangler on the real-life Rubicon Trail - a Californian stretch of untamed wilderness that is sure to test the capability of any 4WD.
"I've been across Australia in a variety of highly capable 4WD cars and that was hard going, but the Rubicon Trail may as well be on another planet," he wrote, adding that there is no better place on earth to test-drive a new Jeep.
The American trail rating system, he explained, ranks conditions on a scale of one to ten, with ten being the most extreme. While the Rubicon Trail is rated as a ten, the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon edition negotiated the rough terrain with ease.
"In fact, in hindsight, I seriously doubt any other stock 4WD on this planet could successfully negotiate this trail in the hands of a first timer," Crawford said.
Indeed, Jeep identifies control as the major draw of the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, which boasts a front sway bar disconnect system and steel-plated off-road skid plates among its many off-road -friendly features.
