The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee has been awarded five stars in the latest NRMA Reversing Visibility Index.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee was among the 14 per cent of cars tested to be awarded the full rating.
NRMA Insurance head of research Robert McDonald said the results were pleasing and illustrated the advancements that manufacturers - such as Jeep - have made in adopting reversing cameras in more new cars.
"Installing or purchasing a vehicle with a reversing camera is not a total resolution for this issue, however it goes a long way with helping drivers be aware of what's behind the car," Mr McDonald said.
The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee features an OEM rearview camera, with an instrument-panel-mounted 16.5 centimetre touch screen, giving the driver a real-time view of what is immediately behind the rear bumper.
Also available in the Jeep Grand Cherokee is the Blind Spot Monitoring feature which utilises dual radar sensors to constantly monitor driver blind spots - illuminating icons on side view mirror and an audible chime provide the driver with notification of any potential hazards.
"We would always encourage drivers that as well as looking at the reversing camera to pause, check their rear-view mirror and look over their shoulder as a final step before reversing to help avoid any unnecessary collisions," Mr McDonald added.
